Bioprocess Engineering Intern
As we continue to address scientific white spaces in the smart protein sector, we are seeking a highly motivated Bioprocess Engineering Intern. Working closely with our Science and Technology Specialist (Fermentation), you will play a key role in synthesising complex engineering data into impactful technical publications that will guide the future of biomanufacturing in India.
How will you make a difference
As a bioprocess engineering intern, you will support the development of critical resources to help the fermentation-derived smart protein industry scale its technologies. Specifically, you will:
Support GFI India’s SciTech Specialist in developing high-impact scientific content for a wide audience, including academia, industry and policy stakeholders.
Independently conduct literature reviews on engineering solutions for biomass and precision fermentation-derived smart proteins.
Synthesise technical literature and data into technical reports and engineering guides for biomass and precision fermentation-derived smart proteins.
Periodically collate and present work products/updates in team meetings.
Independently navigate cross-functional collaboration within GFI India.
Appropriately document internal stakeholder communications in designated portals.
Ensure all projects and associated reporting is undertaken in a timely manner.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Who we're looking for
We are looking for a smart, thoughtful, and creative self-starter who wants to transform the food system by supporting the development of sustainable smart protein that is accessible to everyone.
An ideal candidate for this position will have skills & experience that reflects the following:
Knowledge and experience:
Pursuing or completing a master’s degree in Bioprocess Engineering or Chemical Engineering (a PhD would be preferred).
Demonstrated experience in microbial fermentation bioprocesses, including a functional understanding of scale-up principles, bioreactor operations, and bioprocess optimisation.
Proven experience in technical or scientific writing, with the ability to translate complex engineering information into structured, impactful publications.
Experience in conducting scientific literature search and reviews, using tools such as Google Scholar, Web Of Science, Scopus, etc.
Familiarity with adjacent industrial biomanufacturing sectors (e.g., biofuels, biopharma) and their applicability to smart proteins is highly desirable.

Terms of internship: Full-time, fixed-term contract of 2 months (July - August 2026)
Reports to: SciTech Specialist (Fermentation), GFI India
Location: Remote. Access to a computer with a high-speed internet connection is necessary.
Salary: Gross monthly stipend of up to INR 30,000 per month, commensurate with skills and experience

If you qualify the written assignment stage, you will be invited for an interview with senior members of the GFI India team.
